Mexico’s Sustainable Taxonomy is a public-policy classification tool led by the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP). Its first phase covers climate mitigation, climate adaptation and gender equality, with technical criteria for specified activities and sectors. SHCP describes initial implementation as voluntary in its official taxonomy materials.
Organizations can screen activities for eligibility, gather evidence against the relevant technical criteria and document the basis for any alignment assessment. The taxonomy is not a general certification, and alignment should not be claimed without completing the applicable assessment.
Bring climate activity data together for review of relevant environmental criteria, while gender and other social criteria remain with the responsible assessment team.
Map projects and economic activities to the sectors and activity descriptions included in the taxonomy.
Gather activity, location and performance data needed to assess the applicable sustainability criteria.
Document evidence, assumptions, gaps and the conclusion for each activity reviewed.
