The VSME Standard is a voluntary sustainability reporting standard recommended by the European Commission for non-listed SMEs and micro-undertakings that choose to report. It has a Basic Module and a Comprehensive Module, with the Basic Module used first. The Commission Recommendation also allows use by SMEs in third countries on a voluntary basis.
Businesses can begin with the preparation basis and the Basic Module’s environmental, social and governance disclosures, then add applicable Comprehensive Module information. The standard is voluntary; it does not decide whether another reporting obligation applies.
