The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) is mandatory from August 12, 2026 with no grace period. If your company manufactures, imports, distributes, or sells packaged products in the EU, this applies to you.
The PPWR (EU Regulation 2025/40) replaces Directive 94/62/EC on packaging and packaging waste. The critical difference: it is a regulation, not a directive. That means direct application across all 27 EU member states with no national transposition, no local interpretation margin, and no pending local law excuse.
The main obligations entering into force in August:
Reuse targets by packaging category phase in later, with 2030 as the first milestone for most categories.
From August, obligations apply to:
If your company reports under CSRD, packaging waste data is a mandatory component of your environmental disclosure.
Most companies have packaging weight, material composition, and disposal routes scattered across suppliers, ERPs, spreadsheets, and waste operator records. The PPWR requires you to prove compliance to authorities, not just claim it.
Three specific pain points:
Manglai's AI is integrated across the entire platform. It is not a separate add-on but the layer that makes modules like waste management and product footprint work with real data, without manual effort.
Not sure whether your company already has active obligations? Use Manglai's environmental compliance checker.
The PPWR has no informal grace period. From August 12, national authorities can request compliance documentation. Two actions that cannot wait:
If your data collection is still manual, implementing an automated solution is the fastest path to compliance.
Manglai automates ESG data collection and traceability: carbon footprint, waste management, and product footprint. Built for ESG managers and operations teams who need audit-ready data.
