The UN Global Compact Mexico (Pacto Mundial Mexico) is the local network of the United Nations Global Compact, the world's largest corporate sustainability initiative. Its aim is to mobilise the Mexican business sector to align its strategies and operations with the Ten Principles of the Global Compact and with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN's 2030 Agenda.
Through tools such as its SDG guide for Mexican companies, the UN Global Compact Mexico offers practical guidance so that organisations can integrate the SDGs into their management and contribute to the country's sustainable development.
The Global Compact was launched by the UN in 2000, and its network in Mexico was set up to make it easier for local companies to take part in this global platform. The initiative calls on the private sector to operate on the basis of universally accepted principles in four key areas:
Companies that sign the Compact commit to making continuous progress in implementing these principles and to reporting transparently on their progress.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a global agenda of 17 goals and 169 targets that address the world's main social, economic and environmental challenges, from the fight against poverty and gender equality to climate action, quality education and responsible production and consumption.
In a business context, the SDGs provide a roadmap for generating positive impact while creating sustainable business opportunities. Organisations that align their strategies with the SDGs strengthen their reputation, access new markets and anticipate regulatory and social risks.
The UN Global Compact Mexico has developed a practical guide to help national companies integrate the SDGs into their day-to-day management. This guide:
The guide is specifically designed for the Mexican context and takes into account the country's cultural, regulatory and social characteristics, which makes it a highly accessible and well-contextualised resource.
The SDG approach promoted by the UN Global Compact Mexico is fully complementary to other sustainability tools used in the country, such as:
This allows companies to produce more comprehensive, robust reports that are aligned with global standards.
The UN Global Compact Mexico and its SDG guide offer a practical framework, grounded in the national reality, for organisations to contribute actively to sustainable development. Adopting the SDGs as part of corporate strategy not only improves the competitiveness and resilience of Mexican companies, but also strengthens their role as agents of change in the country's social and environmental transformation.
